Original ink sketch by (Samuel) Wood Gaylor (American, 1883-1957). This work is signed l.r. It still bears a label from the Kraushaar Galleries in New York which states the title of the work, "Child and Horseman". Not dated but circa 1920. A naked child pulling on his "horsey" stands in front of a naked horseman brandishing a sword. Original pencil drawing by (Samuel) Wood Gaylor (American, 1883-1957). This drawing is initialed in pencil l.l. It still bears a label from the Kraushaar Galleries in New York which originally sold the work. Interestingly, the gallery seems to have recycled an old folder which had previously held a work by John Sloan and simply erased the previous information. Untitled and not dated, but circa 1920. Original ink sketch on paper by Rhys Caparn (American, 1909-1997) of a stylized bird. This work on translucent paper measures roughly 10" by 10". It is signed in pencil l.r. by the artist. Fresh from a New York collection. Rhys Caparn studied sculpture with Alexander Archipenko. Her favorite subjects were animal and bird forms, rendered in an abstract mode.
