Large (10" in diameter by 5 1/2" high) and early work by legendary Hungarian-born American studio potter Eugene Deutch (aka Deutsch), circa 1940s. Signed "E.Deutch"--not dated. Deutch was a student of Brancusi in Paris before coming to the US. He exhibited at the Syracuse Nationals in 1937, had a solo show at the Dallas Museum of Art in 1948 and at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he was teaching, in 1959. Large exceptional vase by Edgard Aubry (Belgium, 1880-1943), circa 1920s, bearing his "E.Aubry" incised signature on the bottom--indicating that it dates from the pre-1929 period. 12" in diameter and over 6" high. Please look for similar examples in "Sel et Feu" and " Au Tour des Aubry" by Fauconnier and Migeot. Bouffioulx and Chatelet School. An impressive vase by an important Belgian ceramicist who worked in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles.

Rare vase by Pol Chambost (France, 1906-1983), circa 1950s. Egyptian blue glaze (crackeled). 16.5cm, 7cm wide. Incised mark that reads: "2072 Poterie Pol Chambost Modele Depose France". In excellent condition. Pol Chambost is an important figure in French ceramics and design of the mid-century period. Although trained as a sculptor he is mainly known for his work with art pottery.

Large (9cm by 23cm) Egyptian Blue bowl with crackled glaze, mid-century, by Pol Chambost (France, 1906-1983). In excellent condition. Signed "Pol Chambost" and numbered in dark script. Pol Chambost was one of the most important French ceramicists of the mid-century period in France. He was also well-known as a designer and sculptor. One of 3 works by this maker currently available.

Beautiful Japanese studio vase, in the form of a Han Dynasty cocoon vase, in the Mingei style, mid 20th century. Very reminiscent of the work of Kawai Kanjiro. This vase is not signed, and it is missing its original box which would have made an attribution possible. 26cm by 19cm (roughly 9 3/4" by 7 1/2"). In beautiful condition.

Extremely rare ceramic vase designed and decorated by Rene Buthaud (France, Bordeaux, 1886-1986), circa 1925-1930, African inspired Art Deco. 22cm high. This vase was at one time drilled to be turned into a lamp. Signed "J.Doris", the pseudonym Buthaud used for pieces that he sold in the United States. Buthaud is the most important ceramic artist of the Art Deco period in France.
