| Original watercolor/gouache on paper by Hans Kleiss (1901-1973). A wonderful portrait in profile of a Moroccan Berber woman. Circa 1940-1950. Image size: roughly 26cm by 20cm. Signed l.r. Hans Kleiss was an Orientalist/Africanist painter, illustrator and caricaturist. He was the husband of Orientalist painter Yvonne Kleiss-Herzig. They both lived for long periods of time in North Africa (Morocco and Algeria). They settled together in Sidi Slimane (Morocco) in the early fifties, before returning to France. One of a number of works by this artist currently available. Well listed and collected. | |
