| Rare early expressionist painting by important American painter, printmaker, collector, curator, and art historian Jacob Kainen (American, 1909-2001). This work on board measures 16" by 20" (painting alone). It is signed "Kainen" upper right and inscribed "Jacob Kainen" verso under the ghost of a long gone gallery label. Provenance: from an estate in Asheville, NC. This work appears to date from the 1940s, and bridges the divide between his early expressionist/social realist style and the abstraction that was yet to come. Offered in excellent condition. | |
