| Original mid-century patinated brass or bronze sculpture by Rene Shapshak (France-South Africa-Canada, 1899-1985). Shapshak studied sculpture at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. He has an extensive exhibition record. This work measures approximately 16" with the base, 13" without. It is signed "Rene Shapshak" in incised script on the lower part of the sculpture. The Truman Library holds a photo of the sculptor working on a clay model for a bronze bust as the former president poses. Shapshak is listed in all the usual reference works, including "Who Was Who in American Art", Artprice, Artnet, etc. | |
