| Original oil painting on board by Siv Holme (Muse), circa 1940s. This painting measures 26" by 22" (painting alone). It is signed l.r. and still bears a gallery label from the Bertha Schaefer Gallery in New York City, a venue where this artist had solo exhibits in 1947, 1948, and 1950. The title for this work according to the gallery label is "Portrait of two girls." Siv Holme was born in Sweden in 1914. She studied at the Beaux Arts in Paris in the thirties, with Andre Lhote, Othon Frieze, etc. She also exhibited in Paris during that period, at the Salon D'Automne in 1937 and at the Salon des Independants in 1937 and 1939. She eventually settled in New York where she showed in a number of venues including the Bertha Schaeffer Gallery which originally sold this painting. Siv Holme is known as a painter, graphic artist, and sculptor. Her works are in the collections of the Institut Tessin in Paris, the Musee de Tours, and of the French State. She is listed in all the usual databases and reference works, including Who Was Who in American Art (the entry on this artist provides an example of the artist's signature). | |
