| Original watercolor by Eric Godal (aka Erich Godal, or Erich Goldmann, German, 1899-1969) in excellent framed condition (size: 16" by 11" plus frame. Signed Eric Godal l.r.--from a Florida estate. This work is one of two by this artist currently available. Eric (Erich) Godal was a German painter, illustrator, political cartoonist, and caricaturist who contributed before 1933 to Simplicissimus, and after 1933 in Prague to Simplicus/Der Simpl. Godal left Europe for New York in 35 where he worked for a number of magazines including Collier's, and also taught, all the while creating politically charged cartoons and erotic graphic works and illustrations. Godal returned to Germany in 1954. Well listed, exhibited (both in Berlin and New York) and collected artist, with auction records up to 35,000 Euros for an oil on cardboard titled: "Anmache" im Tanzcafe--Berliner Milieu Studie" | |
