| Original oil painting on reinforced masonite panel by Vernon Fimple (American, born 1928). This painting retains its original artist-constructed frame. It is signed "V. Fimple" and dated "62" l.r. It is also titled "Masquerade" on a label which also indicates the original price of the painting ($1250). This painting measures 24" by 30" (29" by 35" in its frame). Extraordinary surrealist painting inspired by the "Garden of Earthly Delights". Vernon Fimple is a rather elusive artist who had a number of exhibitions in Los Angeles in the early sixties (these exhibitions were reviewed in the then new Artforum (Volume I, issues 1 and 10, and Volume III, issue 7). He was the recipient of a number of fellowships and residencies (MacDowell Colony, Yaddo Residency, Ragdale Residency) during that period but seems to have since then dropped from the face of the earth. Any further biographical data would be appreciated. | |
