| Original intaglio by Warrington Colescott (American, born 1921), offered in excellent framed condition (floated, the whole sheet showing, in a shadow box frame). This is an extremely rare work by this artist (from an edition of 40, created at the same time he was working on his "Wild West" portfolio). It is numbered 38/40, titled "Wild Western", signed, and dated 1968 in pencil by the artist. Colescott is a major American printmaker who was Professor of Art at the University of Wisconsin at Madison from the forties through the seventies. Intaglio printmaking became his main medium in the early sixties, and social satire and commentary his main focus. Colescott's works are self-produced. He is represented in numerous museum and private collections. | |
