| Original oil on canvas by John (Johnny) Aiello (American, born 1943). This painting is signed "Aiello" and dated 64 l.l. Offered in excellent original condition in its original frame. 15" by 20" (painting alone) and 20" by 24" in its frame. One of a group of paintings by various PA artists who had been exhibited in the early sixties, and were purchased from, the Socrates Perakis Gallery in Philadelphia (the other works from this group are by Joseph Amarotico, Elizabeth Osborne, and Socrates Perakis himself). Johnny Aiello has been part of the Philadelphia art scene since the early sixties. He studied art in Rome and at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia in the sixties and has been widely exhibited since that period. After 12 solo exhibitions a retrospective exhibit of his work spanning 45 years was held at the C3 Gallery in New York City in 2007. He was himself the owner of a number of galleries, including Gallery Pane Vino opened in Philadelphia in 1967. Provenance: Socrates Perakis Gallery, private collection in Pennsylvania. | |
