This figural grouping appears to be a representation of a master and slave at a particularly dramatic moment of their relationship. Carved in full round, signed on the base "Thuma". Height 20". Friedrich Thuma the Younger is a German sculptor who studied art in Munich and worked in Stuttgart. He is known for religious works, fountains, etc. The National Gallery in Stuttgart holds a work by this artist called "The Kiss". He is the son of sculptor Friedrich Thuma the Elder (1829-1882) who specialized in religious subjects.
