Terrific monolithic art glass vase from Czech artist Frantisek Vizner (1936), produced in the late 1960s. This piece is very cool...all about the form, a vertical block, with a spectacular internal decoration of tornadic bubbles, twisted amongst green and amber/yellow glass, which grades lighter towards the base. Striking! This artist's work resides in The Met, The Corning Museum and other museums throughout the world. Size/Condition: Measures 9.5"x 3.25"x 3.25" and is in exc ...click for details

Outstanding stylized mid-century sculpture which we suspect dates to between the 1940s and 1960s, artist unknown. This piece is carved from a block of bonded wood, with minimalist and extreme features, a little Francis Bacon meets Art Deco...very simple, very strong. Cleverly constructed, the cleft in the chin is merely a well placed knot....good stuff! Size/Condition: Measures 9.75" tall on a 7.25"x 6.75" base. Has average handling wear, minor surface marks, no losses. Illegibly ...click for details

Knockout 1950s era art pottery vase from famed ceramicist Livia Gorka. The fine tri-cornered vessel has an organic sculptural feel to it, lending well to the painterly rendering of the three birds that ring the widest point. Great visual quality, nice tactile quality as well with the waxy glazes. Measures 8.5"x 6.5" and is in excellent condition. Signed with the artist's initials to the foot, undated.

Terrific 1950s vintage physique photograph by Ralph Kelly of Los Angeles. Kelly, like many of his contemporaries, photographed for the assorted physique publications of the era. The photograph offered here is a very stark and direct studio image featuring a young, blond model sporting a USA eagle tattoo. Kelly clearly had an excellent understanding of lighting and this image shows the mastery of that skill, with the model's head and shoulders highlighted while the the rest of his body and th ...click for details

Large and fabulous mid-century studio vase from Arabia....a classic piece from the 1960s, when chamotte clay was all the rage...Arabia, Palshus and so many others were using it for the intense rustic texture and tactile surface. This vase is a beautifully wheel thrown piece with an excellent squat orb form and narrow, short, stovepipe neck. A milky clear glaze (a la Gambone) is used in conjunction with an oxide, applied in bold circular strokes...all of which highlights the throwing rings and sc ...click for details

Truly exceptional, museum quality example of transitional art pottery from North Carolina. This vase was thrown by CB Masten while at Auman Pottery, circa 1928-1932, after graduating from the famous ceramics program at Alfred University. Masten's arrival at the pottery signaled a change in the aesthetics with the introduction of salt glazed stoneware and innovative use of colored oxides on pieces that are rare and highly prized amongst collectors.
Masten was a technician and artist of the ...click for details
