This is a superb ink and color portrait on silk of Soson Taesa,as he was usually known in Korea,who was one of the most important Zen Masters in Korean history who lived in the 16thC and was probably the most important Monk of the Choson Dynasty.The two poems on the painting were written by two admiring desciples of Ch'ongho Hyujong,their names were Dae-Jun and Ham-Myung Dae-Kwang. An excellent late 19thC Korean watercolor dipecting a hunting scene in the mountains of Korea.The colorful costumes of the hunters are typical of the dress for that period.The artist is unknown but his talent in the field of watercolor is unmistakable.The condition is very good with only a small tear above the back feet of the white horse do to the handling of the picture..
