| This vase has every thing going for it. Great work, beautiful condition, unusual Victorian handles and silver body. This is an exquisite and unusual Japanese Cloisonne Basse-Taille Vase with Victorian style handles which are also worked in Basse-Taille. The vase is signed Hattori on a silver plaque. The enamel body of the vase is in gorgeous condition. The rear of the left handle has some extremely minor stressing near the rounded top which has not oxidized and some minute hairlines and minute chipping near the rounded bottom (last photo), again very small and minor. The bottom silver rim is very slightly pushed up in the rear. I am being very critical. You would be hard pressed to find a vase done in this type of work in better condition. Size is approx. 3 /3/4" tall. INFORMATION ON THE VASE AND SIGNATURE: When I purchased this vase in the 1970's it was not expensive. Looking at the signature from the bottom up, the left side says "Hattori" The right side bottom says "made by". I can not translate the other two symbols above it. I have never seen this type of Hattori signature before. I want to state that I believe this signature to be real but I can't say so for sure. The plaque sticks out slightly further than the base causing the vase to slighly wobble. What makes the plaque stick slightly further out is that the symbols are RAISED and not incised. Could the signature be a fake... maybe? All that I can tell you is that when I purchased this great piece the signature was certainly not meant to deceive or to drive the price of the vase up. Hence, I honestly do not know one way or the other if it is original or not. BECAUSE OF THIS I AM SELLING THE VASE AS IF THE SIGNATURE IS NOT ORIGINAL. BUY THIS VASE FOR THE BEAUTIFUL AND FINE WORK OF ART THAT IT IS. IF IT TURNS OUT THAT THE SIGNATURE IS REAL, IT IS JUST AN ADDED BONUS. | |||||||||||||
