ca. mid twentieth century 29" x 16", 74 cm x 41 cm It is impossible to describe how much very tight stitching is sewn on these work pants: the stitching to the proper fronts of these trousers is done in such dense fields that it reads more as texture than hand stitching. ca. early twentieth century 27" x 32 1/2", 68.5 cm x 81.5 cm Absolutely charming, this is a mini nagagi, or long coat, made for a child, most likely from repurposed cloth, probably from the child's parents' cast-off clothing. Beautifully faded, this indigo dyed striped cotton kimono shows some repairs to the sleeves (see detail photos) and has a lovely, long silk tie. The interior is fitted with faded indigo cotton linings.

ca. early twentieth century 38" x 41", 96.5 cm x 104 cm Beautifully colored in greys, bone whites and rich indigos, with an extraordinary kasuri (ikat) patterns that include vertical elements of graded width, this child's kimono is woven from cotton and silk. In certain cases this kind of under kimono is referred to as koshimaki. The blue dyed cloth, the base of this boro textile, is probably commerciallly produced (or at least the cotton is powerloomed), and there are ten pieces sewn together to create the area of the koshimaki. ca. early to mid twentieth century 52 1/2" x 25", 132 cm x 64 cm This two panel boro is woven from a gorgeous indigo dyed kasuri asa (ikat woven hemp or ramie) fabric, most likely omi jofu, the extremely finely made hemp/ ramie fabrics from Shiga, Japan. The asa cloth is silken to the touch and very lightweight-- and it is beautifully figured with phoenixes, scrolls depicting plovers or chidori, paulownia flowers and abstract cross hatchings. This is an indigo dyed furoshiki, or wrapping cloth, which has been well-used and repaired with 24 patches, one of them being a very lovely katazome patch on the bottom, center. The big, vertical streaks of sapphire rich indigo are a foil to the gound color of a watery version of the same blue.
