A Densely Sashiko Stitched Indigo Dyed Cotton Bag

ca. late Nineteenth, early Twentieth century 20" x 11", 51 cm x 30 cm Dense rows of white sashiko stitching to the lower third of this bag are its most alluring feature. The hand spun, hand woven, indigo dyed cotton is a beautiful contrast to the thick band of white sashiko stitching; note how interesting it is that the plaid base cloth is seen through the haze of the dense stitching. Some repairs and a stain to one side of the bag (see detail photos), the other side of the bag is in beautiful condition.
