| ca. mid twentieth century 29" x 16", 74 cm x 41 cm It is impossible to describe how much very tight stitching is sewn on these work pants: the stitching to the proper fronts of these trousers is done in such dense fields that it reads more as texture than hand stitching. Please take a careful look at the detail photos where we tried to capture this amazingly labor intensive detail. Of patched and repurposed indigo dyed cloth, these tabbled work pants, called tattsuke or momohiki, are a staple farm garment from rural Japan. Worn with a work coat over it, trousers allowed for freedom of movement and were worn by both men and women. An amazingly good pair of momohiki with mind blowing sashiko stitching. | |||||||||||||||
