This elegant Birds in the Air Quilt is one of the finest examples I have seen. It is all made of one beautiful and unusual printed fabric alternating with solid white. The quilting is excellent with a lovely meandering vine throughout the border. The scalloped and appliqued border is a most unusual treatment. The quilt has been professionally laundered and is in pristine condition. It measures 96" x 100", ideal for either a queen or king size bed. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1850.
Richly colored Barnraising Log Cabin Quilt set on square. It is made of solid color wools with a printed cotton backing. Tiny red centers are like little jewels throughout the quilt. Alternating rows of black logs frame the other colors. The overall composition and colors make for a wonderfully intense bedcover or wall hanging. It measures 82" x 84". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1870. Very good condition.
This charming hooked rug shows two cats with a variety of flowers of vastly different sizes and shapes. Soft colors are brightened by the judicious use of red. The rug is professionally mounted on a stretcher measuring 19" x 30". Pennsylvania origin; late 19th century.
This traditional Chimney Sweep (aka Album Patch) quilt is done in a nice variety of printed fabrics with the red center as the only solid color. Pinks are placed symmetrically around the red center and in all four corners indicative of the careful planning with which this was made. Half blocks are used on all sides to create a nice inner frame. The quilt measures 80" square. Several very light smudges but essentially very clean with strong fabrics. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1870.
This lively Victorian Crazy Quilt has all the bells and whistles one expects in a fancy quilt of this era. Embroidered motifs include butterflies; fans; flowers and a spiderweb. The written sentiments, visible in thumbnail photos, are quintessentially Victorian, as is the lavish embroidery throughout. New Jersey origin; provenance available. Measures 65" square; circa 1890.
Here is an Album Quilt like no other. It is done completely in velvets with images of fruits, flowers, animals and vegetables. The figure of a girl stands in the center. Perhaps these are some of her favorite things for who else has seen a quilt with beets; turnips; pears, oranges and carrots?
It dates to the 1890's . The front is velvet with a backing of cotton sateen. They are in excellent condition. The satin binding has frayed. The quilt measures 60" x 74". It was found in Bal ...click for details
This LeMoyne Stars is a gem of a crib quilt. The pattern and its scale; fabrics and border combine to make this a special piece. Each star is 3" in diameter. It is professionally mounted on a stretcher that accommodates the quilt's curved corners. It measures 38" x 41 1/2" and can be mounted either vertically or horizontally. Condition is excellent; circa 1830. New York State origin.
This Variable Stars with Applique is one of the gentlest, most subtle quilts I have seen. The Stars are color arranged to form a pattern of concentric squares. Appliqued vines and flowers in the border echo the center medallion design. Hearts in the center are repeated in each of the four corners. The center is signed HAS and dated 1846 in minuscule cross stitch. It is in excellent, unwashed condition; measures 85" x 92". The maker's warm feelings are clearly reflected in this unus ...click for details
This Rising Suns is a pattern rarely seen, probably because it is so difficult to make. It is done in classic indigo print on solid white. It is well quilted; professionally laundered and in pristine condition. Everything about this quilt says late 19th century - except the date of 1904 embroidered on the border. I can only guess that it was presented then or perhaps completed then after years in the making. The fabrics; pattern and quilting styles indicate an earlier date. Measures 70" x 7 ...click for details
This original quilt pattern resembling Celtic Knots is outstanding in both its conception and implementation. Curves and points are the two most difficult features to execute and this quilt consists solely of the two of them. Quilting patterns in the white blocks repeat the knot design. Measures 98" square. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1870.
