Extraordinarily rare crewel embroidered Waist Pocket dating to about 1800. Wool on linen with cotton binding. Incredible condition. Unusually bright and colorful. Professionally mounted on stretcher that measures 15 1/2" wide and 18" long. Found in Pennsylvania.
Powerful Windmill Blades (aka Pineapple) Log Cabin Quilt. Solid red and white heighten the graphic impact of this pattern that traditionally has lots of movement. Half blocks serve as a border. Pristine, unwashed condition. Measures 82" square; circa 1890.
Great combination of Bars and Nine Patch Quilt. Extra bonus is the Cheater's Cloth backing, making it totally reversible to a printed patchwork. Nine Patches are smaller than postage stamp size. Each piece is a miniaturized 1/2" to a side. Excellent condition; damage to only one block - visible in last of the thumbnail photos showing the Nine Patches. Terrific fabrics both front and back. Measures 76" x 78". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1880.
Early, elegant LeMoyne Stars quilt with chintz border. Wonderful subdued shades of greens, browns and blues. Stars made of numerous closely related patterned fabrics. Hand loomed tape binding. Professionally laundered; excellent condition. Measures 90" x 98". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1850.
Stunning grouping of early 19th century fabrics used to make the triangles of this Thousand Pyramids quilt. Professionally laundered; pristine condition. Lovely soft tone tan chintz border of two different fabrics. Probably in the 19th century, this was quilt was likely made smaller. Only on the back does one see a seam next to two of the borders. This was exquisitely done and does not show at all on the front.
Measures 92" square; circa 1850. Pennsylvania origin.
Original pattern Amish trundle size quilt from Kalona, Iowa. Very three dimensional in that the brown diagonal strips truly appear to be superimposed upon the Bricks pattern. Made of wool; circa 1920. Maker's name available to purchaser. Looks equally well hung vertically or horizontally. Measures 46" x 76".
This unusual Log Cabin Quilt was sold to me as African American and it may well be. I am a stickler, though, for not categorizing a quilt as African American without adequate provenance. Regardless of who made it, this is a wonderful piece with deep, rich colors and a diagonal grid of Chinese Coins pattern. The center of each diagonal is made from red/orange wools that add unity and zing to the entire piece. Made of medium weight wool. Excellent condition. Ohio Amish Postage Stamp (aka One Patch) crib quilt looks much like a Paul Klee painting for a fraction of the price. Excellent condition. Well stitched with cable and clamshell quilting in the borders and concentric X's throughout the body of the quilt. A wonderful miniature in every way. Professionally mounted. Measures 32" x 36". Cottons; circa 1910.
Fleur-de-lis applique pattern with exquisite quilting. Corner blocks and border are the same fabric; the rest of the appliques are a second material. Triangle border is a nice contrast to the curvilinear forms of the blocks. Professionally laundered. Several spots of very well done, inconspicuous darning on the brown border. It seems as though the quilt may have gotten caught on something because everywhere else, the fabrics are healthy and strong. Measures 76" x 92"; Pennsylvania orig ...click for details
