An exuberant quilt that is unusual in several ways. The egg yolk colored centers of each sunflower date to about 1890. The three different printed fabrics used for the diamonds all date between 1830 and 1850. Wonderful border treatment really does give the effect of rising suns. Very well quilted; unwashed condition. Fabrics used for the white background have aged to different shades of ivory. Beautifully pieced Feathered Stars Quilt done in pink and green calico, prototypical colors of southeastern Pennsylvania. Unwashed condition; has one very light spot on one of the pink calico areas that only can be seen in certain lights. Extremely dramatic. Measures

Unusual pattern crib quilt that creates a wonderful positive/ negative effect between the hexagons and the diamonds. Measures 43" x 50". Virginia origin. Shows some wear around the binding edge but the fabrics throughout the quilt are strong and intact.
It seems as though this quilt pattern would have a romantic or imaginative name other than the obvious X but I have been unable to locate one. In any case, it is remarkable how such a simple pattern can form several combinations and with the appearance of so much depth. Rich colored calico prints are terrifically offset by the solid white. This early Twentyfive Patch pattern is done with a masterful use of fabrics and color. The dark brown corners of each meet to form an additional Four Patch, all done with some of the most lush, unusual fabrics that I have seen. Very good quilting. Many features make this a very well executed version of a Double Nine Patch pattern. The blocks are postage stamp size. Each piece of the Nine Patch measures barely one inch. It is very nicely quilted with a variety of patterns. The colors are well placed with reds consistently making up the center. In addition to the Double Nine Patch pattern, it is laid out so that one gets a diagonal chain effect as well. Has been professionally washed. Measures 78" x 92"; Maryland origin; $695.
This Bear's Paw has the quilting and border treatments typical of many of Maryland's finest nineteenth century quilts. The double sawtooth border encases lovely vine quilting.
