$625.

Lovely country quilt of Swallow in the Window in excellent condition. The striped fabric (which is more denimy blue than the gray it appears on my monitor) nicely continues the solid red used throughout the quilt. Measures 70" x 78": circa 1890.

This Windmill Blades Log Cabin Quilt has lots of swirling movement as the name implies. The dark centers are made of a combination of blue and brown fabrics giving added richness to this vibrant pattern. The front is almost all wool with velvet centers to each block. The yellow fabric and backing are cotton. Excellent condition; circa 1890. Measures 72" x 86".

$950.

This Thousand Pyramids Quilt is made from more than 1000 different fabrics. While clearly intended as a Charm Quilt (in which no fabric is repeated), a thumbnail photo shows a brown striped fabric used twice. Further evidence that to err is human. Excellent condition. Measures 76" x 91". Circa 1880.

$695.

Tumbling Blocks quilt in which no fabric is repeated. The use of each fabric only one makes it what is called a charm quilt. A number of the prints look the same but close examination shows that they are not identical. Very good condition; has a few very light smudges but no other condition apologies. Front dates to about 1880 with the back about 50 years later. Measures 70" x 92".

$635.

This unusual quilt is intended to be completely reversible. One side is a One Patch and the reverse is Wild Geese(aka Birds in the Air). While the quilt was made in the late 19th century, the Wild Geese incorporates some fabrics from the mid century. It is especially interesting to find elegant glazed chintz in three of the blocks of this otherwise country quilt. Both sides are in excellent condition; there is a small amount of color bleed on one of the glazed chintz blocks (visible in thumbnail ...click for details

$1285.

There does not seem to be an established name for this takeoff of a Four Point Star quilt pattern. It is much more complex than one usually sees. The way the blocks are positioned creates an octagon around each star giving the entire piece a wonderful swirling effect. Beautiful combination of 1870's fabrics. Excellent condition; measures 75" x 90"; circa 1870.

Classic Evening Stars quilt done in solid red and white with tiny black print. Nice cable pattern quilting in the red grid; geometric pattern in the stars. Excellent condition. Measures 71" x 81"; circa 1890. The red is a beautiful mellow color. It is not toward orange as appears on my monitor.

$875.

Variable Stars Quilt made with a lovely selection of compatible red and brown printed fabrics. Red triangle border continues one of the fabrics in the quilt and frames the stars and diagonal grid very effectively. Crisp, unwashed condition; there is a light water mark along one edge visible in thumbnail photos. It would most probably be removed with a wash but I leave that choice to the purchaser. Measures 80" x 96". New York State origin; circa 1880.

$2800.

This Rose Wreath pattern is exquisitely quilted. The applique wreaths are repeated between the blocks in quilting stitches and a graceful quilted swag echoes the appliqued border. For the outstanding needlework, this quilt won First Premium at the Adams County Fair (year unknown). The prize and name of the maker, Ellen E. Kelly, accompany the quilt. While the primary pattern is traditional, the maker took liberty with the border. She used straight lines for the bottom of the swag and a curve alo ...click for details
