This wonderfully three dimensional Tumbling Blocks Hooked Rug has appeal on several counts. It is very much like the Tumbling Blocks Quilt pattern. At the same time, it has the effect of 20th century Cubist design. It has impact as a wall piece but is also strong enough to be taken off the stretcher and used on the floor as was originally intended. Made of wools; circa 1920. Pennsylvania origin. Stretcher measures 27 1/2" x 53".
This is an original pattern hooked rug of irregular circles. Each is also irregularly outlined yet the whole is very cohesive and balanced. I think of it as a hooked painting. Made of cotton; circa 1920. Professionally cleaned and restored. Measures 38" x 60".
Interesting geometric hooked rug that forms a variety of patterns. While the primary pattern is that of squares set on point, the triangles forming the corners of each of these blocks join to create diagonal strings of rhomboids. In addition, the primary blocks can be viewed as the front face of tumbling blocks. This rug appears to be in un-used, pristine condition. Made of wools; circa 1920. New England origin; measures 38" x 65".

Charming hooked rug of a cat surrounded by acorns and oak leaves. Cat is wide eyed and appears to have smiling pink lips and whiskers. Excellent condition. Professionally laundered and mounted on a stretcher that measures 19" x 36". New England origin; circa 1920.
Long hair abstract hooked rug in wool done on burlap. Soft, muted colors. Deep pile measures 3". Rug is on a stretcher measuring 21" x 61". Rug is in excellent condition but stretcher is a bit flimsy. There would be no loss in removing the rug from the stretcher for much easier shipping. Circa 1920.
Hooked rug in an original pattern of a hexagon outlining concentric ovals. Mounted on stretcher measuring 34 1/2" x 36"; excellent condition. Circa 1920.
Unusual hooked rug with two totally different textures. The interior striped portion is done in traditional hooking. The border is done by a technique known as prodding. The loose ends give a wonderful hairy effect. That, combined with the irregular coloration make a terrific contrast with the structured pattern of the striped center. New York State origin; circa 1920. Measures 39" x 40".
Large and small Concentric Diamonds are repeated in the grid formed by the outline of each shape. Reds sprinkled throughout make this primarily earth toned rug quite lively. Made of wools; excellent condition. Measures 23" x 39 1/2". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1920.
