$450.

What could be more appealing than this Cats crib quilt pattern? Does the fact that there are nine of them relate to the traditional notion of cats having nine lives? Nicely embroidered with details including a collar on each animal. Cable quilting in the border and concentric diamonds throughout interior. Pristine condition. Colors softer that in photos. Measures 35" x 36". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1930.

$695.

The maker of this Four Patch quilt has achieved a three dimensional effect in a very simple pattern. In part, this is due to the use of related, dark but not drab, materials. Many of them are subtly patterned as is visible in the close-up photos. The use of red quilting thread in a crisscross pattern that is at 45 degree angles to the squares also contributes. Excellent condition; primarily wool suiting fabrics. Front is circa 1900; back is closer to 1930. Pennsylvania Mennonite. Measures 80&qu ...click for details

Whether or not this was meant as a Baskets pattern is subject to opinion; whether or not it is wonderful design is not. Looks equally good when viewed from any direction. Strong diagonal design of the pieced patern is accentuated by quilting in diagonal lines. Excellent condition; professionally laundered. Measures 72" x 86". Circa 1930; Pennsylvania origin.

Kewpie dolls are an unusual quilt motif and nearly half of the blocks of this embroidered quilt show them in different poses. Many of the remaining blocks are of a busy Sunbonnet Sue. Also out of the ordinary is the use of multicolors of embroidery. Excellent condition. Well crafted throughout; border consists of four different quilting patterns. Measures 74" x 82"; circa 1930. Unusual center medallion arrangement of the Jacob's Ladder pattern. This Amish quilt is from Somerset County, Pennsylvania. $725.

Pristine, unwashed Birds in the Air pattern made by the late African American quiltmaker, Jane Ann Hill ( 1879-1966) in Salem, Kentucky. Juxtaposition of solid and printed fabrics adds to the inherent movement of the pattern, really giving the effect of birds flying in the air. Quilting patterns of concentric arcs create further motion. Circa 1930; measures 66" x 77".

A more traditional name for this pattern would be on the order of Overall Sam but the unhappy expression on the face of each boy has led me to re-mame it Grumpy Boys. Apears Southern in construction but was purchased in Pennsylvania with little background information. Excellent condition although not finely made. Circa 1930; measures 57" x 72".
