This is a beautifully quilted example of a classic California Rose applique quilt. Wreaths are quilted in the white areas between the flowers. The swag and tassel border is a graceful frame for the pattern. It was professionally laundered and in excellent, spotless condition. Dates to the 1860's; Pennsylvania origin. It measures 82" x 84".
Large and small triangles placed on diagonals make the Pinwheels really seem to twirl in this unusual quilt. It is very well quilted with flowers in the outer border and several other designs in the interior. Measures 74" x 76"; Pennsylvania origin. Excellent condition.
Solid red centers wonderfully offset the variety of printed, late 19th century wool challis fabrics in this Light and Dark Log Cabin Quilt. Some people believe the red centers, often seen on Log Cabin quilts, are meant to signify the fireplace hearth. The color tone of this quilt is especially warm and rich. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1870's. Measures 78" square; excellent condition.
This Straight Furrows Log Cabin Quilt displays the strong graphics for which Mennonite quilts are known. The piano key border creates a wonderful frame continuing the diagonal theme. It is from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; made of wools; circa 1890. It measures 72" square; excellent condition.
The official name of this quilt pattern is 1000 Pyramids but it does not begin to tell the story of this amazing piece. It has 40,4000 triangles on the front! The maker was clearly OCD long before the diagnosis was dreamed up. Even more amazing is that she (presumably) went on to piece the back as well. Squares making up the back are shown in thumbnail photos. Solid color orange and red fabrics are well placed throughout the quilt giving it a bit of a twinkle. Both sides are in excellent conditi ...click for details
This is a beautifully quilted example of a Variable Stars Quilt. The white blocks are quilted with clamshell patterns. It is in excellent, professionally laundered condition. The fabrics are richly colored. It measures 86" x 90", ideal for a queen or king size bed. Made in Pennsylvania; circa 1850.
This is an extraordinarily fine roll up sewing case known as a huswif. It is far more elaborately pieced than most. In addition, it has written the initials "CW (and something I cannot make out) For Get Me Not" written in the tiniest cross stitch imaginable. The red wool flap for storage of needles is decoratively embroidered. All of the edges are bound in silk that has some fragility. The pieced diamonds are both wool and cotton. Fully opened, the piece measures 19" long. It is 4 ...click for details
Silver pendant by Robert Lee Morris with 11 diamonds of varying sizes. Both front and back have a lovely undulating shape. For a more casual look, the pendant can be worn equally well on the reverse as a plain silver pendant. Morris sold this strung on a black cord but one can easily substitute a silver chain if preferred. The pendant measures 1 5/8" wide and 1 1/2" tall.
This wonderfully striking crib quilt is best described as a take off of an Ocean Waves pattern. It is made with a lovely scattering of light and dark fabrics that are symmetrically placed in the center. The larger triangles, separated with bold strokes of red, are the ultimate border. Signed on the back is the name Paul. Unfortunately, we will never know whether he was the maker or the recipient. Measures 36" x 42". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1880. Excellent condition.
This charming One Patch Doll Quilt was either the practice piece of a child or the work of a mother whose good intentions exceeded her skill. I believe it was meant to be a One Patch with all equal squares. Overall, it does "read" like a checkerboard pattern but in fact, some of the blue striped blocks are elongated rectangles (one in a different direction than the others) and some of the red blocks are narrowed. It is hand quilted in brown thread. Measures 16 1/2" square. There i ...click for details
