Elongated hexagons set on the diagonal form an unusual Honeycomb pattern quilt. Made primarily of Civil War dress silks with an occasional piece of velvet. Has damage to no more than 5% of the silk pieces which is virtually inevitable with these types of fabric.

Rare and elegant trapunto dresser scarf signed "Catherine Lachman" and dated 1830. Graceful urn of flowers is surrounded by a trapunto leaf border and a crocheted edge. Excellent condition; professionally mounted. Dresser scarf measures 29" wide by 32" long. Frame is 33 1/2" x 36".
Very bouncy Kansas Troubles (aka Sawtooth) pattern quilt that is done in solid colors giving it added spark. Additional small triangles at each intersection create Bowtie and Pinwheel patterns. Well quilted in two alternating designs. Freshly washed and spotless. Measures 72" x 82"; Pennsylvania origin. Circa 1910.
Pulsating Starburst quilt composed of beautiful late 19th century fabrics is contained by three borders. Unwashed condition; Lancaster County, Pennsylvania origin. Equally interesting fabrics used for bars on the back making the quilt completely reversible. Circa 1880. Measures 82" x 89".
The total use of solid colors makes the impact of this Chimney Sweep (aka Album Patch) quilt particularly striking. Light and dark triangles between the blocks add to the effect. Unwashed condition. Has some small dark spots visible in thumbnails that do not detract from the overall drama of the piece. Measures 74" x 84"; North Carolina origin.

Barnraising Log Cabin quilt done in silks and satins with velvet centers making it far dressier and more elegant than most cotton versions. Small scale to the quilt and the blocks. The choice of colors and the arrangement of patterns combine to make this a truly dazzling quilt. At least four different patterns can be discrened depending upon how the eye focuses. This Philadelphia Pavement variation is bold and strong in every way. Unwashed condition. A small white spot on one of the blue blocks is part of the paper label from the bolt of fabric, further indication that the quilt has never been laundered. Terrific grouping of fabrics typical of southeastern Pennsylvania quilts of the late 19th century. Equally striking on the reverse Open Center pattern done in a different palette.
