This essentially Three Patch quilt pattern is done with a wonderful use of lights and darks to create a strong diagonal, much like a Straight Furrows. I have searched for a name for this pattern and see it called both The X quisite (sic) and A Quilt of Variety. They strike me as grandiose names for such a simple pattern, however effective it is. Front is suiting wools; back is cotton. A few very tiny holes which I do not find distracting, but one could mend them if desired. Measures 72" squ ...click for details
Twentyfive Patch quilt done in a beautiful, soft shade of blue. Sawtooth border is a slightly different fabric that is perhaps 2% darker than the interior. Pristine, unwashed condition. Exquisitely quilted variation of a Cockscomb appliqued quilt. The more traditional version of this pattern does not have the vase in which the flowers are sitting. Finely crafted in every way; beautifully quilted with many different elements and very well appliqued. Wonderfully out of scale as is often the case with 19th century quilts of flowers in containers. This silk Crazy Quilt Top looks very much like stained glass. It is exceptional in several ways. The pieces are unusually small; the condition is pristine. More unusual is the construction. From the back, it is evident that it is pieced as a Tumbling Blocks pattern with each block divided into many irregular pieces. Initially, the construction is obscured by the multitude of tiny pieces. Additionally interesting is the choice of cotton prints for the backing. They have anchors as well as Columbu ...click for details
Evening Stars quilt with a terrific assortment of red printed fabrics dating from the 1830's - 50's. Sashing and border fabrics appear closer to 1870. Paisley prints consistently used in the intersections. Excellent condition. Measures 78" x 81"; Pennsylvania origin.
Fresh and airy crib quilt in a variation of Rose of Sharon pattern embellished with eight birds. Excellent condition; professionally laundered. Measures 45" square, making it possible to hang on point for a larger, even more striking image. Lancaster County, Pennsylvania origin; circa 1880. Green is much more even in color than appears on my monitor.
Immaculate Drunkard's Patch quilt is a stunning shade of teal blue/green. Reverse would make an equally interesting wholecloth quilt with the white quilting against the same teal.Photos on my monitor are misleading; it is definitely more green than blue. Unwashed condition; looks as though it has never seen the light of day. Measures 82" x 84": Pennsylvania origin. Circa 1890.
