This is one of the best scrappy quilts I've seen in a long time. Puss in the Corner (aka Improved Nine Patch) blocks are combined with Economy Patch to create a very lively pattern. Terrific combination of typical 1870's and 80's fabrics. Excellent, unwashed condition. Measures 68" square.

Huge, pristine condition Steeplechase pattern quilt (aka Mill Wheel) done in solid red and white. Unwashed condition. Measures 100" square, amply covering a king size bed. Most unusual to have a quilt of this era and color combination in such a large size. Nicely quilted; circa 1880.

SOLD

Princess Feather applique quilt done in a color combination only the Pennsylvania Mennonites would dare to use. Brilliant continuation of the feathered effect incorporated in the border and corner blocks. Truly an eye dazzler. A note sewn to the quilt says "Quilt no. 82 Elvin and Martha Hershey". Unwashed condition. Measures 76" square. Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Mennonite; circa 1880. Green is not quite as dark as shows on my monitor.

Unusual doll quilt combining traditional Bars pattern with a One Patch. Extraordinary border uses both an appliqued "dogtooth" with irregular pieced patches. Clearly made by someone with an eye for the unusual and the ability to implement it. Excellent condition. Measures 11 1/2" x 14 3/4". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1890.

SOLD

Unusual applique quilt with the hex signs that are emblematic of the Pennsylvania Dutch. In addition to virtually every barn having one, they are used liberally in the decorative arts. I have never seen this motif, though, as a quilt pattern. Quilting in white ground repeats the pattern. Fabulous border incorporates the circle around each applique block. Excellent condition; very well quilted. Measures 75" x 86". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1930.

Vibrant hooked rug in a geometric stepped pattern that is wonderfully framed by a contrasting curvilinear border. Colors are as fresh as the day it was made - in the 1930's. Un-used condition. Measures 27" x 41"; Pennsylvania origin.

Deep indigo and white are the perfect combination for this Puss in the Corner (aka Improved Nine Patch) quilt. Actual tones are deeper than show on my monitor. Diagonally abutting blocks create a wonderful chain effect. White border within the two navy ones enhances the sense of depth of the frame. Pristine condition; professionally laundered. Measures 72" x 75"; circa 1870.

SOLD

Cross Roads Crib Quilt by the same maker as Item # 730222. Both have the same border fabric and nail heads, previously described, but other than that, the selection of fabrics and placement of lights and darks are strikingly different. Unwashed condition with one small, light smudge. Measures 39" square; circa 1890.

Striking variation of a Light and Dark Log Cabin quilt done in wool challis. Streak of Lightning border meant to indicate which end of the quilt was for the head. Wonderful combination of solid and printed fabrics creates additional sub-patterns. Small size logs; each measures less than 1/2" wide. Very fine condition but as is usually the case with wool challis, not perfect. Measures 66" x 73"; circa 1870. Pennsylvania origin.
