$225.00

Measuring a total length of 26 inches including strings, this fabulous, late 1940's, black character marionette is in wonderful, never-played-with condition!

The puppet, itself, is 14 inches tall and is colorfully dressed in blue and white checked pants, red shoes, orange and whit polka dot shirt, straw hat and red patterned neck scarf.

The puppet's face is composition and bears evidence of some age-related crackling as noted in photos. He has a tiny piece if composition missing on the left side of his neck partially covered by his neck scarf, so it is very difficult to notice. He bears a manufacturer stamp on the bottom of his right foot, but it is partial and unreadable. His hands which hold colorful pink straw maracas are a heavy molded plastic.

The puppet is free of stains, dirt and odor. He retains his original black strings and wooden airplane controller!

Measuring approximately 3 1/2 inches long x 1 3/4 inches wide x 2 1/4 inches high, this adorable pair of circa 1950’s, Japanese made, salt and pepper shakers remain in excellent condition complete with original corks!

Perched upon carrots, a cute pair of Black African Natives happily guard their trove of salt and pepper. The pair are unmarked although known to be Japan-made.

Some appropriate, age-related crazing is evident here and there on this colorfully painted, absolutely darling pair which display beautifully!

Please take a moment to view the companion salt and pepper shakers also available for purchase and priced separately--2 little black boys perched on corn cobs (photo offered here for your convenience).

$90.00

Fresh from a multi-generation New England estate are two matching, stacking, 19th century, wooden pantry boxes.

They were originally assembled using glue, wooden pegs, and square head nails, although many of these were replaced at some point with early round head nails.

Condition is quite good with some age-related separation of wood as seen in photos---nothing that disturbs the structural integrity or visual appeal of this very early pair. Both retain wonderful, all-original patina. Please see photos for a fine representation of all angles and insides and outsides of both boxes. The covers of both boxes fit nicely despite the crooked appearance suggested in my photos!

Measurements are 6 inch diameter by 2.5 height and 5.5 inch diameter by 2 inch height. The smaller box fits nicely into the larger or they may be stacked one atop the other for display!

$28.00

Taken from a battered and unsalvageable 1907 story book, this delightful, hand-colored lithograph presumed to be drawn by L. Hobbins is entitled, "It Won’t Hurt Much". The litho features a very frightened and pain-ridden little black girl, Abiathar, whose aching jaw is tied up in a sling. Her Mammy and Pappy are attempting to convince her to allow the dentist, who looks on with menacing pliers in hand, to pull her infected tooth!

Measuring 9 by 11 inches framed, this gorgeous litho is not signed but other lithos from the same book and executed in the same style are indeed signed L. Hobbins.

A delightful piece of Black Memorabilia that features the accompanying text on the reverse side.

The frame is a temporary and inexpensive one to allow the potential buyer to view the story on the backside, but the piece should be properly framed to enable its continued conservation once purchased.

Please ignore any white streaks seen in photos; these are the result of light reflection off of the glass. Small piece of glass missing (see photos).

His red felt jacket is age-stained as seen in photos. The dancer's other clothes are in fine condition as are the tin and celluloid components.

$75.00

Measuring 22 inches wide x 13.5 inches high, this highly-detailed, hand-colored, 1886 map of ASIA comes from the People's Family Atlas, George F. Cram, Engraver and publisher, Chicago, Illinois. A sampling of the countries shown are: China, Russia, Mongolia, Siam, India, Persia, Arabia, Turkey, Anam (Vietnam), Tibet, Burma, Niphon (Nippon or Japan), Corea (Korea). Featured are close-up detail boxes of Canton, Delhi, and Jerusalem.

Mounted on a museum-quality, acid-free, foam core backing (which can be used as the backing when the piece is later framed), and protectively encased in shrink-wrap until ready to be framed, this map remains in superb condition-- no rips, tears, foxing or other discoloration. All print and map detailing is very sharp and easily read. Please note that any white marks seen in photos are due to light reflection off of the shrink-wrap and do not represent a condition problem.

A fascinating look back into historical 19th century Asian geography!

Also offered and priced and listed separately are an 1886 unframed China map and an 1840 framed map of Europe (also pictured here--see more detailed photos in individual listings).

$155.00

Measuring 11 inches tall, this wonderfully detailed, circa 1930's, gentleman, African-American doll is phenomenally well detailed!

ENTIRELY hand-stitched, this gent is dressed in fancy striped pants, straw shoes and hat, green belt, and in a navy blue and white polka dot shirt with a tiny breast pocket that holds a teeny pack of CAMEL cigarettes, labeled with a "C"! His outfit is topped off with a red tie that is held in place by a bean tie tack!

His face is hand-stitched with careful attention noted to the creation of his molded, 3-D nose. The weather must be warm as he wearily wipes his hot neck with a red and tan checked handkerchief!

A delightful African-American Southern character doll!

$45.00

Measuring 5 1/2 inches high x approximately 4 inches wide, this utterly adorable, 1950’s, coin bank entitled, “BONGO – A Nut from the CONGO”, is fashioned from an actual coconut! His face has been hand-painted, he wears a single brown, pipe cleaner fashioned hoop earring, he has a small tuft of brown yarn hair atop his head, and he also wears a wooden “bone” through his painted-on nose!

BONGO appears to have never been unused and is in near mint condition - the only imperfections noted are a few minor and superficial facial paint rubs. His wooden platform base bears manufacturer information as well as bank opening instructions (see last photo for details)! A darling addition to one’s Black memorabilia collection!
