A very rare Ming dynasty blue and white figural jar. Finely painted with a dream-like garden scene showing an immortal, dressed in fine clothes of an official, accompanied by a tiger and by a servant carrying books. Identical jars bequeathed by Oppenheim are in the British Museum and Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. It was bought directly from the renowned collector, Mr. RW Longsdorf. It bears his collection label. Date: Late Wanli period (early 17th century); Height: 10.9cm or 4.3inches; Conditions: two shallow chips to the mouth rim; Provenance: Collection of Mr. RW Longsdorf.
