A rare and fine ca. 1750 French gilt ormolu mounted Chinese export famille rose porcelain cup. During the 18th century, porcelains in Europe were luxuries like Armani, Cartier, Hermes etc. today and they were often sumptuously mounted. The mounts were even more valuable than the porcelains. The 18th century French gilt ormolu mount of this Chinese export porcelain cup attest to this. This rare silver mount was finely sculpted and heavily gilt. It was exorbitant to produce at that time. This type of cups can be dated to around AD1750 according to the opinions of historians and academics. The cup and the mount are contemporary with each other. Date: ca. AD1750; Height: 6.2 inches; max. width: 6.2 inches; Condition: porcelain cup restored and all sprayed, ormolu mount in good condition. Similar cups often sell for more than $10000 at auctions.
