This is a nice early 20th century famille rose floral baluster vase and cover dated 1919. It was beautifully painted with a large peony and birds, such as, a crane, a peacock, mandarin ducks etc. The back was inscribed with a Chinese title which can be translated as 'The wild life in the garden prospered in spring under the nurture of a virtuous family. In the winter of year Jiwei (corresponding to AD 1919), Xie Haidong emulated the style of Bada Shanren and painted this at the Banyuexuan, "Pavillion by the Moon"'. It was signed Xie Haidong, a porcelain painter during the early 20th century. Date: AD 1919; Height: 16 inches, max. diameter: 9.5 inches; Condition: one small chip on rim of cover, knob of cover fritted.
