Here is an important Tang dynasty Yue 'mise' type shard. The Yue 'mise' type ceramics belong to an extremely rare group of ceramics produced as tributes for the Chinese court during the Tang dynasty. They were also presented as diplomatic gifts to Middle Eastern royal families during the Tang dynasty. Until now, less than 20 pieces from the underground chamber of the Famen Temple, Shaanxi and the Belitung wreck are officially recognized as the Yue 'mise' type wares. Yue 'mise' type shards are exiguous too. The shard offered here is the cover to a jar. It is in fairly good condition with only a few small chips and cracks. It is very useful for studying the Yue type ceramics and early Chinese court tribute ceramics. Date: Tang dynasty (AD618 - AD907); Diameter: 5 1/4 inches; Condition: finial chipped off, 2 rim chips, 2 3/4 inches rim crack as shown in the photos. Shipping costs to Australasia and Asia: $15G Shipping costs to all other places worldwide: $30.
