A fine and rare imperial Guangxu mark and period sacrificial blue glazed cong vase. Of finely potted archaistic square 'cong' form after the Neolithic jade 'cong' and applied with two carved elephant ears on the two sides, covered in a thick, lustrous glaze of an even and warm blue tone. The base bears the six character Guangxu imperial mark. It came from an old English collection. An almost identical vase which I handled was sold at Christie's Hong Kong on 27 November 2007. Both vases are virtually identical. Their base marks were written by the same person. Provenance: very old English collection; Date: Guangxu mark and period (AD1875 - AD1908); Height: 11.5 inches; Width: 5 inches; Condition: pristine.
