Rare antique 18th century Turkish Ottoman Islamic dagger Kard. DETAILS: A hilt of cylindrical form with a base and pommel in turban form made of five pieces of a very high quality rust-brown tone Jade with a fine granular texture and inlaid in gold with stylized palmettes stars and zig-zag band motifs. A tapering single-edge blade made of very fine Damascus steel wootz Inlaid in gold koftgari on each side at the forte with a foliate pattern. A steel scabbard decorated throughout with gold and silver damascening in scrolling foliate and floral motifs. Please note that the hilt of this dagger is made of rust-brown tone jade not a green Jade-Nephrite. Most of the jade hilted Islamic daggers, including Turkish or Mughal, have hilts carved from green Jade - Nephrite hilts. This hilt is made of high quality rust-brown tone Jade which is very rare, so the stone was traded as an expensive precious stone in small pieces instead of big chunks as green nephrite, that is the reason why this hilt is made of five pieces. MEASUREMENTS: The overall length in the scabbard is 30 cm (11 3/4 inches). CONDITION: Very good condition. ALL OUR ARTIFACTS ARE ACCOMPANIED BY A CERTIFICATION OF AUTHENTICITY.
