Ancient Egyptian made of alabaster woman’s makeup dish from the second Millennium BC.
CONDITION: This piece is in good condition considering its age except for an old repair (see the picture). MEASUREMENTS Height: 1¼ inches. Diameter with tabs: 4 inches. REFERENCES: The Egyptians believed beauty and fashion were very important. Men and women both wore makeup. What separated the rich from poor was not the existence of makeup but the expense and luxury of containers and applicators. Everyone had galena powder however while the poor resorted to sticks to apply it, the wealthy had intricately carved and bejeweled containers of ivory, alabaster or other precious materials. .
