A scarce antique 19th century British Victorian Infantry sergeant’s sword, hilt pattern 1822. Details: A solid brass four bar basket hilt incorporating a crown over the royal cipher VR, with a wire bound sharkskin grip, with a back-strap decorated on the top in rococo ornament and stamped near the quillon with arsenal mark. A sturdy slightly curved single–edged blade with full length fuller, double – edged toward the point, stamped on the outer side of the forte with the number 21, “BR”, and a crown above.(Birmingham ) The other side is stamped with the inspector mark 13, below the crown the back of the blade is stamped “R”. The sword comes with its original leather scabbard with brass chape, locket, and suspension mounts. The blade of this particular sword is not engraved, and is sturdier and heavier, compared to similar officers swords of this pattern. Also the hilt is larger to comparable swords; since this is a combat sword, most likely from the Crimean War period of time.
CONDITION: The sword is in good condition considering its age, except for worn out stitches on the leather scabbard.
MEASUREMENTS: Overall length with the scabbard: 100 cm (39 3/8 in), overall length without the scabbard: 96 cm (37 3/4 in), length of the blade: 82.3 cm (32 3/8 in).
