Rare Herend figure of Hungarian man & donkey
This example is hand painted with exceptional detail. No cracks or repairs.  Height: 15 inches and 10 3/4 long. The figure is signed by the artist " Markup B." He was designing for Herend between the 1920s and 1940s.  Figurines and sculptures were not prominent in the Herend range in the 19th century, but many such pieces were made in the first half of the 20th century, in accordance with the tastes of the day. They joined the traditional Herend vessels and table services as prized adornments in wealthier homes. In the 1930s, the manufactory was in contact with almost all the applied arts. High-quality, tasteful figures appeared in large numbers.
