| 18TH CENTURY DAMASCUS STEEL IMPERIAL RUSSIAN DAGGER Splendid Russian aristocrats’ stiletto with Damascus steel blade, 18th century. The fulerret hilt is cut from a semi precious stone with chiseled in scrolls and silver fittings, gilded and enameled, and set with rubies and turquoises. The wooden scabbard covered by snakeskin with a silver gold gilded locket, finely hand chiseled, enameled, and set with rubies, turquoises and garnets, decorated on the center with a small sculptured bust of a Turk wearing a turban. The brass chape is probably a 19th century replacement of the original judging by its plain design. These types of daggers were made for the Russian Aristocracy in the city Tula during the 18th century. Total length with the scabbard is 10 ¾ inches (27.4cm). The total length without scabbard is 9 5/8 inches (24 ½ cm)). Length of the blade approximately: 5 ½ inches (14cm). Condition: the previous owner informed me that the handle was cracked and invisibly repaired; also the enamel is worn out. | |||||||
