Dalmatian/Venetian sword Palash, 17th century

Rare, late 16th century - early 17th century Dalmatian – Venetian sword Palash. DETAILS: broad double edged tapering blade cut with three slender fullers on each face (characteristic type for a Venetian Schiavonea), stamped with the bladesmith's mark, steel hilt of "D" shape comprising the back quillon with chiseled knob terminal, front quillon decorated with chiseled stylized dragon head terminal with triangular section knuckle-guard decorated with dots, hilt formed of two pieces of horn riveted to the tang with a rectangular steel pommel.
MEASUREMENTS: The overall length is 87 cm (34 1/4 in).
REFERENSES: Such types of unusual hilts with a double quillon can be found in Hungarian early 17th century swords; The dragon head terminal is an influence from early Turkish Ottoman swords. “Kardok” by Lugosi Jozsef-Temesvary Ferenc.
