Antique 18th century Turkish Ottoman Sword Yatagan-Yataghan. DETAILS: A characteristic ear shaped hilt formed of two pieces of dark brown horn retained by three rivets; a recurved single edged hand forged steel blade deeply struck with an Ottoman sword smith mark inscribed in the Arabic alphabet, a forte applied with shaped brass decorated with repoussee scrolling foliage. In its original leather covered wooden scabbard stitched with brass wire and mounted with a brass band locket and a small iron chape.
The Yatagan sword was very popular not only in Turkey but also in many Balkan states and some Eastern European countries such as Ukraine and Hungry. MEASUREMENTS: The overall length with the scabbard: 87 cm (34 ¼ in). CONDITION: The sword is in good condition considering its age except for a split in the scabbard and the leather is partly worn out near the chape.
