Antique 18th century circa 1760 Hungarian saber. Details: A typical 18th century eastern European hussar brass stirrup hilt comprising a bud-shaped quillon merging into cross-shaped langets, knuckle -guard, and a cap pommel decorated in rococo ornament and retaining its original wooden grip bound with cord and covered with leather with twisted copper wire. A broad slightly curved single edged blade cut with a broad full-length fuller and a slender fuller along the back-edge. In its original Turko-Persian style wooden scabbard bound in stitched leather mounted with silver inlaid steel fittings. Due to centuries of neighboring and wars with the Ottoman Empire, many 17th -18th century Eastern European Swords, particularly Polish Hungarian and Russian, have classical Turko-Persian scabbards, this sword is a classical example of such swords with combined Western and Islamic elements.
