| This is a beautiful example of late Victorian Custard Glass. A large unmarked vase decorated with a handpainted Sepia landscape scene , Evergreens next to Lake in the foreground, Evergreens in the background framed by Sepia Gold Leaves with a trailing vine and berries in a plum color, the decorative border on the collar of the vase an enameled Vine with heart shaped leaves repeated around the entire vase on a satin finish ground, the interior and base are not Satin. Finely decorated with enamels in white for the snow on boughs of evergreen and deep gold/sepia borders at each segment of the vase. The lip is cut and polished, base has a polished pontil with no marks. MAKER: I have not been able to confirm the maker through my research, have always felt that Mt. Washington was likely but cannot prove this. The glass is 3/16" thick and vase is quite heavy with a fine satin finish. SIZE: 11" ht. x 5" in diameter at the widest point on the vase. CONDITION: there is a fine diagonal scratch on the back, almost feels as if it was a flaw as it is smoothed down to the line it creates. There is very minor trim loss on the upper rim right side. Neither of these things are distracting and will not interfere with your enjoyment of this exceptional vase in your collection. A lovely piece of Antique Custard Glass. | |||||||||||||||
