| The third painting offered in this fine group of miniatures, a Pen and Ink, watercolor drawing or painting on paper, the Santa Prisa Cathedral in background, buildings of Taxco in the foreground. Beautiful small painting. The painting is one of a group of 4 small painting/drawings which were from the same Estate, are the work of the same artist and are all the same size. Signed TAXCO M.GARCIA.M. SIZE: framed 6-1/2" X 4-1/4", painting size 4-1/4" x 2-1/4". Frame is a thin dark stained wood. CONDITION: excellent, light toning on the paper, the frame does have some light surface rubs on the finish. The framing was done in Corpus Christi Texas late 40's or early 50's. Framers label is still attached. I believe that this was purchased from an Artist in Taxco in the late 40's during a visit to this City. I have no absolute information on the artist although there was a Silver Jewelry designer with the same initials who working in Taxco for Rancho Allegre circa 1956, Miguel Garcia Martinez, the appraiser for the Estate felt that these paintings were possibly his early work. While this is an interesting attribution, and the initials and middle name are the same,at present I have been unable to conclusively confirm this. | |||||||||
