| An absolutely fabulous vintage framed Straw Picture made in Mexico circa 1920-50. The subject the Floating Gardens of Xochimilico, famous for their beauty and a much visited spot in the 1920-50 era. This Popote is of a Man in a boat with Flowers moving toward the Shore. Fine detailing. This is signed CORTES..Xochimilico. Signed examples are rare. These colored straw pictures or paintings are just incredible in their detail and have a place of their own in the Mexican Arts and Crafts Movement. This Popote has the patination on the straw colors and the tiny work of the older pieces. They were originally souvenirs of a visit to the Gardens. A fragile and fine Mexican Craft. There is another piece from the same Estate which will be on my item list as well. Both are of Xochimilico. SIZE: Framed 9-1/2" x 6-3/4"..image 4" X6" CONDITION: The border, left side is missing two lines of straw and base is missing some straws. This is the only damage. Excellent, the glass has caused a muted glare but be assured that this is only from lighting and will not be on the picture. Anyone who collects old Mexican Arts & Crafts or has Mexican Colonial decor will love this vintage example of Mexican Arts & Crafts. | ||||||||||
