| An Elegant and Gorgeous Gorham Manufacturing Company Silver basket detailed with head of a young Man inside the handle hinges , the feet are cubes with balls on each side. Very unusual Modernist / Constructivist / Egyptian design . This basket looks like very fine Sterling, has no seams and is fashioned with precision. The marks indicate that this is a very early piece of Silver Plate as it is marked with the Anchor only, GORHAM MFG. CO. ........letter B date code for 1864. Number 0130. OTHER MARKS: the side is engraved with very ornate initials MPF......DEC. 25, 74 (which I understand would be 1874 based on the marks ) also a scratched 1x on the base SIZE: 11" x 8" x 2-3/4" x 5-1/2" CONDITION: the interior of the bowl shows normal light polishing scratches, there are no finsh wear or losses on this basket. The handle is constructed as a precision piece and folds easily. It appears as fine silver. A most exceptional piece of Gorham Silverplate, it will be a fine conversation piece and add to any era Sideboard. This basket will, with care, grace fine Dining Tables for another 150 years. | |||||||||||||||
