Old (1940's) Burmese Red Lacquer Betel Box
It is 11.5 inches (19.2cm) tall by 10.75 inches (17.2cm) in diameter. It is in good condition with no repairs, except minor peeling of lacquer at the rim of the lid, hairline cracks at the body, the bottom, and the tray, and a small chip at the tray (as seen in the photos). Betel box is used to store ingredients needed for betel chewing (a breath freshening stimulant). Betel box symbolizes hospitality as well as owner's social standing.
