In 1994, determining this was a very rare clock, I contacted
Robert C. Eldred Co. Inc. in Dennis, the main auction house
on Cape Cod. He indicated that a Jacob Hostetter is almost
impossible to find ... the last one that came through his auction
house was 5 years ago (1989) ... and it sold for $26,405
Regarding the restored dial - he indicated that the clock would not be worth as much BUT not much less.
Hostetter was one of the best clock makers of the time ...

Two years ago, a Hostetter appeared on a full half page ad in the Maine Antique Digest in a shop in Pennsylvania.I made a phone call
to the shop and their asking price was also, $26,000; 4 weeks later
the clock had sold
