A rare and very finely decorated Chinese porcelain vase depicting a flowering peony shrub painted with fencai/famille rose enamels.

On the base is the iron red four character mark "Shen de tang zhi" -the "Hall for the Cultivation of Virtue" which was located in the Old Summer Palace, the Yuanmingyuan, which was destroyed by European troops in 1860. The mark was used during the Kangxi and Daoguang reigns and also during the Republic period (1912-1948) when we believe this vase was made.

Condition - there is a faint star crack (please view enlargements 11 & 12) - no further damages and no restoration.

民国 稀有精美的粉彩牡丹花卉灯笼樽 “慎德堂制”款

一件精美稀有的粉彩牡丹花卉灯笼樽。底有红色“慎德堂制”四字款。慎德堂，位于圆明园，1860年毁于八国联军之手。慎德堂的款识用于康熙和道光年间，但也用于民国时期。我们认为这件为民国时期作品。

品相：瓶身有一处几不可见的分叉裂痕（见图十一和图十二），无其他损伤，无修复。高18厘米，直径9.5厘米。

A delicately modelled hand painted figure group made by the Herend Porcelain Manufactory, Hungary, during the 1950s or the 1960s. Condition: excellent - no losses and no restoration. 19cm (7.5 inches) high; 14cm (5.5 inches) across.

A rare carved bone abacus with integral reverse glass painting depicting four boys, in a garden setting, peering into a large fish bowl. There is an added inscritpion carved into one side recording that this item was given as a gift in Hong Kong in 1953. Condition; very good - no damages or losses. 11.5cm (4.5 inches) long; 5.5cm (2.2 inches) wide; 1.5cm deep.

A heavy well cast 'bronze' figure, in traditional Benin ceremonial coral beaded costume and headress, probably made in Nigeria during the early to mid 20th Century. Condition: excellent. The circular copper base is probably a later addition. 30cm (12 inches) high. A very sensitively carved Madonna and Child made in the South Tyrol region of northern Italy, probably during the 1920s. Condition: there are very minor edge losses and there is a small, old, glued repair to the base. There has been no overpainting and it has an excellent old patina. A large, heavy, ten-sided (Korean style) black glazed stoneware vase made by Trevor Corser who was the longest servimg member of the Leach pottery, St Ives, Cornwall. This item bears the seal mark of Leach pottery and also Trevor Corser's personal seal. Condition: excellent - no damages and no restoration. 28cm (11 inches) high. 2.8 kg (6lb 3oz).

A trinket box made from Bog Oak - a partially fossilized wood formed as a result of immersion in Irish peat bogs for approximately 5000 years. The wood has been turned and finely carved with Shamrock leaves and a central Trinity Harp and was made in Ireland in the second half of the 19th Century during the reign of Queen Victoria. Condition: excellent - no damages or losses. 7.5cm (3 inches) diameter; 6cm (2.3 inches) high.

A rare early 20th Century red 'aventurine' glass Dachshund, with gold leaf inclusions, made on the island of Murano, Italy circa 1930 - 1950. Condition: excellent. 13.5cm (5.3 inches) long.

A very rare pair of hand guards or constructed from a course woven fibre each incorporating three rows of shark's teeth secured with a fine hand made string or cord. These 'gloves' were made on the Gilbert Islands (now Kiribati) probably during the first half of the 20th Century. Condition: excellent - the fibre is frayed in places but apparently no damages or losses. There is old dried mud or soil on the outer surface of each. Extended length: 40cm Finger loops: 4cm long. Back of hand 'guard': 11cm (4.25 inches) square.

A large hand, worked silver, ring set with semi-precious stones, made in Tibet during the first half of the 20th Century.
Condition: there is much age surface wear; one of the small turquoise stones is missing and some of the original traditional black wax covering the silver has been recently scratched off.
Weight: 13 grams (0.45 oz).

A rare circular table with fine Islamic style geometric ivory, wood and mother of pearl marquetry inlay. This item was made, in art deco style, in Syria in the 1920s or 1930s. A rare rosewood corkscrew and aluminium bottle opener, carved in the form of an Art Deco style dog with glass eyes, made in France during the 1920s or 1930s. Condition: excellent. 16cm (6.25 inches) long.

A heavy hammered copper box with domed top, fitted wood interior and applied (overlaid and inlaid) silver decoration. We understand that the Arabic inscription is descriptive of the box's function (for holding cigarettes). This item was made in Egypt during the first half of the 20th Century. A well cast Art Deco bronze figure of an African warrior designed by Austrian sculptor Franz Hagenauer and made circa 1930-1950. Condition: excellent - no damages or repairs and with original paint in unretouched condition. Bronze: 12.5cm (4.9inches) high; length 19cm (7.5inches)

A small Chinese porcelain vase delicately painted in fencai / famille rose enamels with a scene depicting two ladies on a river bank washing silk. The base carries an iron red four character Qianlong (1736 - 1795) reign mark but this vase was made later, in the early 20th Century, during the Republic period. Condition: excellent - no damages and no restoration. 12.5cm (5 inches) high.

A green and yellow soapstone carving entitled "Lion Building" (located in Shandong province) depicting a scene from the famous Song dynasty legend the The Water Margin ("Shui Hu Zhuan") in which Wu Song fights with and kills Ximen Qing who had previously killed Wu Song's brother so as to 'acquire' his wife. This item is carved in a style which was popular during the Cultural Revolution period (1966-1976) but the subject matter (and the fact that the carving bears the signature of the artist) suggests that it was made a little later, circa 1978 to 1982. 17cm (6.7 inches) high; 12cm (4.7 inches) long at the base.

A rare "famille rose" dragon and phoenix decorated bowl with an inscription dedicating it as a 60th birthday gift from Ma Tao Yu to Xiong Gong - otherwise known as Chen Zhao Ying (1888-1977), who was a senior military leader of the Guo Min-dang (Kuomintang) between the years 1911 to 1932 and who was very close to Sun Zhong-shan and Jiǎng Jièshí (Chiang Kai-shek). From 1944 to 1948, Chen Zhao Ying was the chief of the Jiangxi Province Guo Min-dang Party committee and the minister of Audit for Anhui and Jiangxi Provinces. The bowl, dedicated as an advance birthday gift, is dated Autumn, 1946. Condition - excellent - no damages and no restoration. 12.4cm (4.8 inches) diameter. 1946年 民国 龙凤团纹祝寿碗 一件粉彩龙凤团纹祝寿碗。为一名为马陶余的同乡晚辈送与时任皖赣监察使的陈肇英60大寿之礼。上书：“雄公监察使六秩华诞誌庆”、“寿世寿心”、“乡晚马陶余敬献——丙戌年秋月“。 品相：完好。无损伤，无修复。直径12.4厘米。 注：陈 肇英(1888—1977)，字雄夫，浙江浦江古塘村人。浙江省浦江县中山中学创办人。 辛亥革命时，参加浙联军光复南京战役。1916年，发动浙江独立，反对袁世凯和浙江都督朱瑞，并赴上海见孙中山。1918年，通电拥护西南护法政府，任援 闽浙军第一师中将师长兼前敌总指挥。次年，与蒋介石结为把兄弟。1922年，任以孙中山为非常大总统的护法政府参谋。1926年1月，被选为中国国民党第 二届中央执行委员会候补委员。蒋介石四一二反革命政变后，递补为国民党中央执行委员，连任至第六届。1928年起，任国民政府立法院立法委员，后兼立法院 军事委员会委员长。1934—1942年间，任闽浙监察使。1935年起，兼任中国国民党福建省党部主任委员。1944年，改任中国国民党江西省党部主任 委员、皖赣监察使。1948年任监察院监察委员。1949年6月去台湾，曾兼任中国国民党中央纪律委员会委员、中央评议委员等。著有《八十自述》。

An extremely finely and delicately painted eggshell porcelain bowl by Wang Yijun. The poem on the reverse side reads "Wen ji qi wu xiang feng nian, fu gui rong hua ren ping an. Wang Yijun zuo" which can translate as "Practice the sword while hearing roosters (meaning work hard) and enjoy the affluence of the year; wish people wealth, prosperity and safety. Made by Wang Yijun"The seal mark to the base reads "Jingdezhen Zuo" - Made in Jingdezhen. Wang Yijun (1904 - 1989)was born in Anhui, China. A student of Wu Ai in his early years, he specialised in “flowers and birds” painting. He adapted Lang Shining’s style, with a touch of traditional famille rose technique. His works are usually delicate and vivid, with the elegance of the court school. In 1959 Wang Yijun was conferred the title “Ceramic Artist” by the Jingdezhen Municipal Government. In 2011, the late artist was given the Official award of “China’s Master of Ceramic Art”.
