A very finely carved ivory okimono of a fisherman wearing a grass apron and carrying a basket containing a fish. Additionally (within the basket) is a small bound bundle of reeds or sticks. There is a small peg protruding from his right forearm (please view enlargement #12) indicating that something (possibly the bundle) might have been attached to it. Carved on the base is an insect and the artist's signature, "Seimei". This item was made in Japan during the Meiji period (1868-1911). Condition: excellent - unusually no damages and no repairs. c 18.2cm (7.1 inches) high. Weight: 369 grams (13oz).
