An early 18th Century porcelain tea bowl and saucer decorated in underglaze blue with overgalze iron red and green enamels in "Verte Imari" style. This item was made in China for export to Europe early in the 18th Century, probably during the reign of the Yongzheng emperor (1723-1735). . Bowl: 4cm (1.5 inches) high; 7cm (2.75 inches) diameter. Saucer: 11.5cm (4.5 inches) diameter.

A large, and heavy, Stick Stand, ( for holding walking sticks and umbrellas), profusely decorated, in Satsuma style, with a panapoly of historical scenes enclosed within elaborately enamelled textile (?) patterns and surmounted by a large coiled dragon amongst stylized clouds. This item was made in Japan for export to Europe or America during the late 19th or early 20th Century. Condition: there are chips to the rim, some cracks around the base and losses to the head and claws of the dragon. 39cm (15.3 inches) high Weight: approx 9 kg (19lb 12oz).

A large heavy bottle vase depicting two confronting five clawed dragons amongst clouds and flames and above breaking waves. The base carries the six character seal mark of the Qianlong Emperor (1736-1795)but possibly made later during the 19th Century. It arrived in the UK before 1910 and is from an old West Country estate. Condition - the neck has been reduced and polished. There are no chips or cracks and there has been no restoration but there are surface scratches. Height 23cm (9 inches); 24cm (9.5 inches) wide. Weight 2.6 kg (5.73lb).

AA carved soapstone figure depicting a reclining Scholar; holding a fan in his right hand. This item was possibly made as an object for the Scholar's table and was made in China in the Qing dynasty, probably during the second half of the 19th Century (circa 1850-1900). Condition: a 2.5cm area appear to have been chipped away (in front of the fan and below his right knee)- please view enlargements 5, 6 & 7; and there are small spots of red paint in places. 6.3cm (2.5 inches) high; 7.6cm (3 inches) long.

A rare late Ming Dynasty thickly potted jar decorated in underglaze blue with a key-fret pattern around the neck; on the shoulder a Kraak style diaper pattern encloses four circular panels, each containing a fruiting peach branch; above the foot are stylized breaking waves; the large central area is painted on each side with nine boys, at leisure, in a garden setting. "Hundred Boys" jars with very similar decoration are to be found dating to the Jiajing reign (1522-1566) but this jar was made later, probably for export, circa 1610-1625 during the reign of either the Wanli or the Tianqi emperor.
Condition - there is fritting (production glaze loss) to the rim and there are chips to the foot rim; there are two cracks to the rim which are probably firing (production) cracks and there are various cracks and glaze imperfections to the body but there are no repairs and there has been no restoration.
19cm (7.5inches) high; 19cm (7.5inches) diameter. Weight - 1.5kg (3lb 5oz).

A balluster shaped vase and cover painted with "famille rose" enamels depicting a lady holding a fan with two boys in a garden setting. On the base is painted the iron red four character mark of the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795) but this item was made later, in the early 20th Century, during either the closing years of the reign of the Guangxu emperor (1875-1908) or during the Republic period (1911-1949). Condition: there are minor losses to the enamels but no chips or cracks and no repairs or restoration. 25cm (9.9inches) high.

A white porcelain "Blanc-de-Chine" Buddhist Lion incense stick holder in similar style to the larger Guardian Lions which are frequently to be found at the entrances to Buddhist temples. These were probably originally made for domestic home altars and were among the first items to be exported to Europe from China as decorative objects. This item was made in the kilns of Dehua, Fujian Province, South China ,circa 1640-1660, during the middle of the 17th Century. For a very similar example please see catalogue # 90 in "Blanc de Chine - Porcelain from Dehua a catalogue of the Hickley Collection, Singapore" by Rose Kerr & John Ayers. Condition: there are cracks on two sides of the sqare base, one with an old re-glued triangular section; no damages or losses to the lion itself and no restoration. 16.5cm (6.5inches) high.

A European shape porcelain tea caddy painted in underglaze blue depicting houses and pavillions in a river landscape. This item was made in Jingdezhen (southern China) for export to Europe, circa 1760-1780, during the reign of the Qianlong emperor. For a similar example please see John Ayers "The Chinese Porcelain Collection of Marie Vergottis", page 76. Condition: there is an old 3cm hairline on the shoulder and a minute chip to the one corner of the same shoulder (please view enlargements 6 & 7); no further damages and no restoration. 11cm (4.3inches) high; 9cm (3.5inches) wide; 4.5cm (1.75inches) deep.

A gilt bronze Libation Cup decorated on the outside with auspicious symbols: Cranes, Bamboo,Prunus blossom and Lingzhi fungus and with some of the Buddhist Bajixiang ("eight precious emblems"). This item was made in China in the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) and is from the collection of a British Architect who was born in China and lived in Shanghai until 1931 when he migrated to the UK. Condition: very good - no damages, repairs or losses - but there is some copper oxidation and surface wear, consistent with age, including loss of much of the original gilding. 9.5cm (3.75inches) long: 3.4cm (1.3jnches) high. Weight: approx 100grams (4oz. Please note: this cup is from the same collection as stock #714, #716, #727 & #813 in our catalogue.

A rare, finely cast, pear shaped bronze vase coated with copper oxide ("malachite") encrustation. This item was made in Korea in the 12th or 13th Century during the Koryo dynasty (AD 936-1392). Condition: unusually, very good - there is a 2mm hole in the foot (possibly drilled at the time of making for a strengthening rivet)- please view enlargement 7 - and there are a number of shallow scarcely visible bumps, the largest with associated surface abrasion. There are no splits or cracks and there has been no restoration. 32cm (12.5inches) high; 17.5cm (6.8inches) wide Weight: 1.24kg (2lb 12oz).

A very finely painted Imari porcelain bowl, decorated on the outside with underglaze blue and over glaze iron red and with a central kinrande style panel of gilt floral scrolling. The interior is painted in polychrome enamels and is decorated with the "Three Friends of Winter" - Bamboo, Prunus (plum) Blossom and Pine Tree and with a Crane and a mythological Turtle to the centre. On the base is an iron red Fuku (good luck) mark. This item was made in Japan in the 19th Century, probably during the Meiji period (1868-1912) Condition: there is an old 7cm hairline clealy visble on the inside; no further damages and no restoration. 8.3cm (3.25inches) high; 18.5cm (7.3inches) diameter. Weight: 700gm (24oz).

A small metel bound six drawer black lacquered cabinet finely painted in gold lacquer . Three drawers are decorated with a branch of flowering prunus blossom and the large drawer and door are each painted with a single duck amongst reeds and iris. Condition: very good - there is some age wear to the decoraration on the top, sides and back but the gold lacquer painting on the front is in excellent condition. No repairs replacements or losses. 23cm (9inches) high; 21cm (8.25inches) wide; 10.5cm (4.1inches) deep.
